Quadrat: Translumance

52° 37' 3.432'' N | 0° 35' 13.128'' E

A quadrat is a frame, traditionally square, used in ecology, geography and biology to isolate a standard unit of survey area for study. It may use a physical frame, or rely on a fixed camera and lens field of view to automatically cover the specified area.

In these sound and moving image works, longitude and latitude give the precise location for the area surveyed. A compound, constructed nomenclature expresses imagined geographies.

Quadrat is an ongoing series exploring biophony, anthropophony and geophony.
